From our establishment in 2014, New Ground’s founders have been driven by the idea of breaking new ground in the way capital is invested in NZ. We could see the extent to which institutional investors had successfully deployed capital in Build-to-Rent (BTR) housing across Europe, North America and more recently the UK, in so doing bringing about meaningful improvements in those housing markets, and we wanted to deliver those same outcomes for NZ. Similarly, professionally managed impact investment funds were starting to deliver meaningful outcomes right around the globe, and we believed that these same outcomes could and should be achieved here in NZ. So we brought together a team of people with the diversity of skills and experience necessary to tackle these challenges with confidence, and the passion and drive to deliver those outcomes. With several BTR housing developments already complete, and new developments under construction and in planning, New Ground is leading the way to a future where NZ’s renting households can rent healthy, modern, secure and professionally-managed homes. New Ground co-founded NZ’s first domestically focussed impact fund, the Impact Enterprise Fund, which has successfully demonstrated that investing in for-profit businesses that also seek to generate meaningful, measurable and scalable social or environmental impacts can also deliver attractive financial returns. We are now raising a follow-on fund, the New Ground Impact Enterprise Fund. In 2022 we established Homes for Tamariki Limited, delivering a transformational improvement in the housing of NZ’s most vulnerable children and young people.
