Students Association for Finance and Macroeconomics

www.sknfm.pl

Students’ Association for Finance and Macroeconomics is one of the most active students organisations at the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH). At the end of the academic year 2016/2017 we had more than 100 active members who took part in 16 projects. Our fields of interest embrace monetary policy, econometric modelling and forecasting, macroeconomic analyses, financial markets, and a number of other subjects concerning economics. We publish series of our own scientific articles in our magazine (within the project Economic and Social Review), build our own forecasting model for Polish economy (within Polish Economy Forecasts), every month we act as the Monetary Policy Council and decide on the level of interest rates (within The Shadow Cabinet of the Monetary Policy Council), and we monitor and report about current macroecnomic indices (within Macroeconomic Monitoring). Twice a year we organise Scientific Seminars, which give us an opportunity to present our papers in front of the experts or participate in valuable workshops and lectures. Once a year we invite businessmen, academics and students to take part in the Macroeconomic Congress – our most spectacular project, during which the most prominent Polish economists discuss current problems of global and national economy. Our main goal is to learn how to implement theoretical knowledge into practice. We would like to emphasize that we also deal with economics in social terms by arranging monthly workshops Reform for Poland – an opportunity for a discussion for students, young scientists, and business representatives on vital topics not always directly linked to the subject of finance or macroeconomics. Moreover, we debate according to Oxford Debating System, thus learn the basics of eristic, the art of public speaking, and legal aspects of economic activity. We cooperate with institutions such as National Bank of Poland, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economic Development, International Monetary Fund, and commercial financial institutions.
