The UNC Charlotte School of Nursing prepares excellent, well-qualified professional nurses for positions locally, nationally and internationally. Our graduates practice in a variety of settings including community health agencies, home health care, advanced practice settings such as clinics, and acute care settings usually found in hospitals and medical centers. Programs Overview: UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS (BSN) The pre-licensure BSN curriculum prepares graduates for generalist practice in nursing by providing a strong liberal arts and science foundation, and an extensive range of nursing courses. The BSN degree allows graduates to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), which is required to practice as a registered nurse (RN). Graduates are prepared to work in a variety of settings, caring for clients across the lifespan, and may assume leadership and management roles. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN NURSING The School of Nursing offers three majors with opportunities for specialization within one major. It is possible to earn a Graduate or Post-Master’s Certificate in selected areas. Students apply to all graduate and certificate programs through the Graduate School. GRADUATE/POST-MASTER'S CERTIFICATES There are two types of Certificates offered by the School of Nursing: a post master's certificate and a graduate certificate. Students apply to all graduate and certificate programs through the Graduate School. DOCTOR OF NURSING PRACTICE The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is the terminal practice degree in Nursing. This degree builds upon the student's current knowledge of clinical practice, and will prepare students to practice at the highest clinical level and provide leadership in our dynamic healthcare systems.
