The Samuel R. Myers Foundation for Suicide and Mental Health Awareness
www.sammyersfoundation.comThe purpose of the Samuel R. Myers Foundation for Suicide and Mental Health Awareness is to ensure that public sector employees, such as teachers and law enforcement officials, are trained and educated about mental health issues, so they are better able to distinguish between bad behavior and mental illness. It is also the Foundation’s goal to educate public sector employees on early recognition of suicidal warning signs. The Samuel R. Myers Foundation for Suicide and Mental Health Awareness will succeed in this purpose by focusing on three major activities: 1. Education and Training – To seek every opportunity to facilitate training of public sector employees in mental health and suicide awareness. 2. Scholarships – To support educational scholarship for high school seniors transitioning into college for accomplishments as student athletes and civil-minded citizens. 3. Legislation – To initiate and support any government legislation that will increase the education and training of mental health and suicide awareness among public sector employees. Mission: To encourage and support Suicide and Mental Health awareness, training, and education among public sector employees. Vision: To help create and facilitate an environment that releases the stigma of mental illness and assists public sector employees, such as teachers and law enforcement, to work with people experiencing mental health disorders or are contemplating suicide. Values: Solidarity – An understanding that millions of people are affected by mental illness and suicide. We are a shared community. Awareness – Ensuring that we are all attentive and well informed about mental illness and suicide prevention. Mindfulness - Recognizing that mental health is no different than any other affliction or illness. Pushing to remove any stigma attached to mental health. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." --Philippians 4:13
