Stepmates began with two mates, a camera, and a homemade steadicam — made from recycled timber and held together with a whole lotta duct tape. When that camera decided to leave the company in dramatic fashion by literally falling off the back of a car - the boys turned to animation. At its core, Stepmates is the combined devotion of Mark Nicholson and Sebastian Peart to “Make Australia Funny Again” with animated satire that dances on the line of what constitutes taboo in the current political climate. They have rapidly captured the attention of audiences with their uniquely Australian sense of humour and ability to condense an oftentimes critically overthought topic to a key statement. In 2019, the Seven Network commissioned Stepmates to produce the first series of Regular Old Bogan which hit Australian screens in August 2020. Most things are still held together with duct tape.
