Gomez Mill House (GMH) is one of the oldest Jewish American heritage sites in North America and is chartered as a non-profit educational corporation by the University of the State of New York. Located in Marlboro, NY on the west side of the historic Hudson River Valley, Gomez Mill House has a fascinating history that includes its Jewish colonial founders, Revolutionary era patriots, 19th century merchants, and 20th century activists and educators. The property includes the main building, originally a trading post built by Luis Moses Gomez in the early 1700s, and a paper mill, built in the early 1900s by famed papermaker and type designer, Dard Hunter. Currently led by a committed board of directors with deep personal connections to the Gomez family and the subsequent owners and residents of the property, the foundation pursues a three-fold mission to: 1) preserve the historic site and historical artifacts; 2) educate, entertain, and inspire the public through storytelling; 3) bring history forward and connect today's change-makers with the legacy of GMH pioneers. The foundation’s goal is to educate the broader public about legacies of the GMH pioneers and to inspire new thinking in the fields of: Sephardic Jewish history, international trade, papermaking and book arts, sustainable agriculture practices, civic education, and social activism.
