Averill Creek Vineyard was planted in 2001, founded by former MD, owner Andy Johnston. Lured by its climate and its great potential for Pinot Noir, Andy ultimately settled in the Cowichan Valley, selecting and planting our 30 acre site on the side of Mount Prevost on a moderate southeast facing slope, just a few kilometres from the coastline. Winemaker Brent Rowland joined Averill Creek in 2018, with an extensive international background working for such renowned producers as By Farr in Australia, Calera in California, Escarpment in New Zealand and most recently at Pearl Morissette in Niagara. Now with 21 international harvests, Brent’s focus is on highlighting the texture, freshness and poise indicative of Vancouver Island style. Our aim is to produce honest wines that reflect our site and the vintage, but that first and foremost give pleasure. By intervening less, we are able to provide a clear segue from vineyard to glass.
