Northern Access Initiative
www.northernaccessinitiative.orgTo apply to be a mentor or mentee, please click the "sign up" button or this link: https://www.northernaccessinitiative.org/join Where you live in England is, unfortunately, a great influence over your social mobility. Those who grow up in the South are typically much more mobile than their Northern counterparts. We believe an important explanation for why this is the case is the underrepresentation of northerners at top universities and firms. This has inspired us to launch the Northern Access Initiative to mentor students through their sixth form and university years in order to tackle this inherent disparity. University Guidance: The proportion of northern students accepted to Oxbridge is approximately half that of southern students according to the Sutton Trust. To aid northern state-school students to get into the likes of Oxbridge, Imperial LSE, Warwick and UCL we are running a mentoring scheme. Mentees will be paired with a current undergraduate who is studying the course they would like to pursue. The mentor will provide guidance on how to write the personal statement, achieve excellent A-Level grades as well as help them prepare for any admissions tests/interviews. Career Guidance: After mentoring our first cohort of sixth-formers through their UCAS applications, we would like to run informational sessions introducing them to different industries: finance; consulting and tech to name a few. We will provide guidance on what internship opportunities are available, and what you need to do to make the most competitive applications.
