Africa Insight is a Seoul-based NGO with the aim of facilitating education and awareness surrounding African development, both in Korea and worldwide. Conceived in 2013 by Sungyong Steven Heo in response to his own experiences in Tanzania, Africa Insight has grown as an organisation and now runs its own programme, YES Africa. Based in Kenya, it fosters people-centred solutions, local-centred thinking, and sustainable projects through local entrepreneurial support. Africa Insight's work encompasses a wide range of topics, including media monitoring and reporting, government advisory services and general education work in Seoul. Additionally, we host the annual Seoul Africa Festival, the largest African festival in Korea, and run various cultural integration events. African development means much more than is often perceived, and deserves quality work centred around Africans themselves, rather than donor-serving sympathy work. Only by fostering true African development can strong, productive bonds be formed.
