Franklin Women

www.franklinwomen.com.au

Franklin Women is a social enterprise founded in 2014 by research scientist Dr Melina Georgousakis. Melina saw there was a need for an independent professional community to support women working across the health and medical research sector where they are currently under-represented in leadership positions. Franklin Women has grown to become a respected voice in the sector, bringing together individuals and organisations who are committed to creating an environment where women can thrive. Franklin Women has created a supportive community of individuals working in diverse disciplines, roles and organisations that contribute to health and medical research in Australia. We offer a number of activities and initiatives including: - professional development networking events on important career skills outside of the technical sciences - a cross-organisational mentoring program connecting mid-level female researchers with male and female leaders across the sector. - a carer’s conference travel scholarship providing financial support for additional costs associated with caring responsibilities while a researcher is presenting their work. - intiatives to increase the visibility of women in science and their careers, such as wikipedia editathons, a career blog and monthly e-newsletter with contributions by our sector for our sector. Franklin Women is a membership organisation using financial support from our members to fund our activities. We believe keeping women in careers in the health and medical research sector is something worth investing in. We hope our members will get a lot out of being a part of Franklin Women but also feel good about supporting the cause. For more information, please feel free to visit our website www.franklinwomen.com.au or email us at hello@franklinwomen.com.au
