NewChi Company

www.new-chi.com

After three years of research and development, NewChi finally launched on November 28, 2005. Since then, NewChi’s pioneering designs have engaged consumers with its unique playfulness. Indeed, Taiwan’s leading national newspaper, China Post, has praised NewChi for heralding “a new direction for porcelain.” What sets NewChi apart? Our design focus contrasts that of other tableware producers, which have traditionally emphasized pattern over shape. After all, the basic shapes of tableware have remained largely the same over the ages, so that today, we have come to expect tea sets to be just the way they are. However, breaking this mold, NewChi has invited acclaimed Taiwanese glass pioneer Heinrich Wang to create its first line of tableware products. What Mr. Wang brings is a fundamental sea change in vision and texture; he does so by impacting our sense of touch, and by challenging our conventional muscle behavior. Indeed, NewChi inspires new ways of interacting with tableware, both visual and textual. NewChi’s revolutionary design aspires beyond our traditional concept of the rounded and symmetrical teapot, thereby setting new standards for contemporary living. Such efforts haven’t been entirely without challenges, however. NewChi’s designs have had to cope with porcelain’s 14% shrinkage ratio, a technical obstacle that has translated into an average yield rate of around 30%. Notwithstanding these challenges, NewChi brings us tableware that is simply unexpected and unforeseen.
