Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue proudly serving the island for over 50 Years. Salt Spring Island Fire Rescue (SSIFR) is a composite department with 7 career staff members and 40-50 Volunteer Paid on Call firefighters. We operate out of three fire stations on the Island. In 2011 SSIFR successfully completed the Fire Underwriters Superior Tender Shuttle Accreditation (STSS) which provides residents of the island that are not located in a hydrant area are now considered as hydrant protected.
