Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra
www.cwso.orgThe CWSO presents an annual subscription series to the residents of Central Wisconsin. Now in its 67th year, this regional orchestra comprises 80 professional musicians. Education is an integral part of the mission of the CWSO, presenting master classes with guest artists, hands-on music education experience for area primary and secondary students, the biennial Dorothy Veter Educational Concerts for area fourth grade students and a biennial family concert with reduced pricing. Other educational ventures have included cooperative performance with local dance troupes, in-class art projects supporting commissioning projects and speakers at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point LIFE (Learning Is ForEver) classes. The CWSO also manages the Central Wisconsin Jazz Ensemble, comprising 16 of the best professional jazz musicians of the area, presenting performances of contemporary big band music, including Count Basie, Thad Jones, John Clayton, Bob Mintzer, as well as original compositions. The CWSO offices are located on the second floor of the beautiful Smith Scarabocchio Art Museum on the corner of Water and Main in downtown Stevens Point.
