'We Put the Business in Hospitality' The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of New Haven is the oldest in the state. The program evolved out of the need to develop industry talent at a time when the U.S was experiencing a shortage of hotel and restaurant professionals. The University of New Haven enrolled its first students in hotel and restaurant management in 1950 and for over 60 years have been educating and developing hospitality and tourism managers who have made lasting impact on the industry. A regional leader, our program focuses on hospitality entrepreneurship emphasizing critical thinking and creativity; business sustainability; global awareness and community; diversity; and business education. Every aspect of our instruction and departmental organizational structure is focused on hands-on learning aimed at ensuring that all HTM graduates: excel in both oral and written communication skills, develop top-notch interpersonal skills, become highly organized with the ability to multi-task, believe in teamwork, and perform job task with thoroughness and enthusiasm.
