Plast is a Ukrainian youth association that encourages its members to fulfill their potential, acquire leadership skills and learn to work co-operatively. Plast was founded in 1911-1912 in Ukraine on the model of Boy Scouts, established in Great Britain in 1907. Part of a worldwide Plast community, Canadian Plast has existed since 1948. The aim of Plast is to guide youth to be competent, responsible and valuable citizens of local, national and world communities. Plast uses proven tools of self-development, which are incorporated into all its activities – meetings and gatherings, hiking, tripping and camping. Plast activities, conducted in the Ukrainian language, provide youth with opportunities to develop responsibility, self-discipline and teamwork. Many Plast members have become leaders in their Ukrainian and Canadian communities and have also had distinguished accomplishments on the national level.
