Hunger at Home

www.hungerathome.org

Mission: Hunger at Home serves as a conduit between the business community and nonprofit partners by which excess food and other surplus is channeled to the homeless and the hungry. How we got started: It started with an 8-year old boy, Casidy Sterner, and his father Ewell Sterner, who volunteered at the local food bank and rescue mission in San Diego, California. Casidy asked his dad, “How can this be? What can we do to help more?” From there, Hunger at Home was born. Ewell Sterner was the Area Director of Food and Beverage for Hilton Hotels and he found an amazing group of people to come together and share the passion of ‘people helping people’. Together, the team created Hunger at Home, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and enlisted 26 Hilton Hotels as donation partners and two local charities (San Diego Food Bank and Network for a Healthy California) as the first charity partners. What we do: Hunger at Home partners with convention centers, hotels, resorts, stadiums and entertainment venues to donate food and surplus to soup kitchens and other charities to feed those in need. We have donated over 2 million meals in the past 20 months. We also host events for our charity partners, donate gently-used amenities, china, glassware, bed sheets, and much more. Hunger at Home also proudly assists our charity and nonprofit partners with job placement and equipment needs.
