EPOC - Entrepreneurial Postdocs of Cambridge
www.epoc.group.cam.ac.ukEPOC is a grassroots organisation representing the business face of the Cambridge research community With over 4,000 postdocs at the University of Cambridge and a further 10,000 postdocs in the wider city region, professional researchers are a core strength of the Cambridge innovation ecosystem. EPOC represents, supports and promotes entrepreneurialism and broader commercial skills within this city-wide community, identifying three core challenges to maximising its impact. By addressing them we contribute to making Cambridge one of the world’s top innovation hubs. 1. Enterprise visibility – burst the research bubble. Make sure researchers are aware of the available opportunities to join/start local ventures. Make sure local ventures are aware of the talent surrounding their businesses. Develop a range of entrepreneurial opportunities and establish strong networks to connect key stakeholders and researchers. 2. Changing the culture of research labs – make it acceptable (standard practice) for researchers to target applications during research and pursue commercialisation of discoveries and inventions. Celebrate past academic entrepreneurs. 3. Building entrepreneurial researchers – develop courses, training sessions, and opportunities for researchers
