Flourishing Child Enterprise

www.childflourishing.com

The Flourishing Child Enterprise is rooted in the first real world research involving children, parents and educators in England that explored the question ‘What are the key dimensions of flourishing children?’ This research involved gathering accounts of children who are flourishing or at their best, which were then analysed thoroughly. The resultant ‘Grassroots Model of Flourishing’ explains the key capabilities that need to be nurtured as well as children’s core rights, so that they can be fulfilled, resilient and engaged. The drive behind this doctoral research arose from dissatisfaction of working in an education system that focuses mainly on children’s deficits and weaknesses resulting in low levels of self-esteem, self-confidence, self-efficacy, resilience and vitality. Children need more than being subjected to correctional approaches, rigorous academic standards and outcome-based schooling and parenting. We recognise that the enterprise of supporting children to flourish (feeling and functioning well) is challenging and complex. Our mission is to educate and empower as many parents and educators as possible by equipping them with the latest knowledge from science to practice, helping them to fulfil their children’s right to flourish and fully realise potential of their children or children in their care. Our underlying mission is to make a difference to as many children as possible, by supporting educators and parents to cultivate a range of positive childhood experiences through use of an evidence-based flourishing framework. After all, children depend on their parents and educators to provide them with the best possible environments to help them grow.
