OUR MISSION The River Ridge Commerce Center is owned and managed by the River Ridge Development Authority, which was created in 1998 for the purpose of redeveloping the former Indiana Army Ammunition Plant. While the plant was a crucial defense resource from World War II through the Vietnam War, Congress eventually declared it surplus to U.S. and authorized 6,000 acres to be conveyed to River Ridge Development Authority for private enterprise and development for the benefit of the area’s economy, property values, public health, safety, morals and welfare. OUR LOCATION The River Ridge Commerce Center includes around 6,000 acres of land under common site control that is being developed as a modern business park. It is located along the Ohio River in Clark County, Indiana and is part of the Louisville, KY MSA. The Commerce Center is accessible via I-265, SR 62, CSX rail, the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville, and is 15 miles away from UPS Worldport. OUR HISTORY The River Ridge Commerce Center was formerly the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant, which manufactured smokeless propellant through World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Congress declared the property surplus to its needs in 1998 and authorized 6,000 acres of the property to be conveyed to the River Ridge Development Authority for economic development and other parts of the property to be used for expansion of the Charlestown State Park.
