Taka Taka Zero is a Community-led waste conversion project that is rethinking the concept of zero-waste. Based in the slums of Nairobi, we harness the power of the Community Cooker, to take non-recyclable waste off the streets of low income areas and convert it to energy in a safe and sustainable outdoor stove which incinerates at 800-1200 degrees and reaches 95% combustion efficiency. This cooker is ran by local youths, who receive basic training in waste management and skills for future employment. We produce 3200 meals every week to feed 320 children at Mathare Community Outreach School. We are handing the power back to the community to create long term social and environmental impact through behaviour change. Our goal: cleaner communities, empowered youths and food secure families.
