NorthStar Counseling Services, PLLC
www.northstarclt.comNorthStar Counseling Services, PLLC is a mental health private practice in Charlotte, North Carolina that specializes in treating primarily African-American children, adolescents, and adults with emotional, psychological, behavioral, identity, and relationship issues. Adrean Cottle, National Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor, has been observing the epidemic of mental health issues and illnesses among African Americans for more than twenty years. Despite the growing crisis, many still avoid seeking therapy or handle their issues in unhealthy or destructive ways because they fear its stigma and judgment, which have long been perpetuated by the African-American community. As a result, Cottle decided to start her own practice. In 2014, Cottle founded NorthStar Counseling Services, PLLC to help African Americans address and resolve their personal issues. Cottle also wanted to provide a comfortable environment where she and her clients share cultural and societal experiences that allow them to openly discuss their problems and enable her to effectively treat their issues. Cottle plans to expand her focus to treat African Americans who suffer from historical and generational traumas that stem from their experiences as marginalized people, which have deeply impacted their self-identity, socialization, psychology, and behavior. She also intends to work in healthcare to help treat people with psychiatric disorders. In addition, Cottle plans to create alliances with mental health practitioners and agencies, and faith-based organizations to increase awareness about psychotherapy. As a mental health practitioner and advocate, Cottle firmly believes therapy is the path to freedom to maintain a healthy mental state. She continues to guide people in achieving positive mental health while dispelling the stigma of therapy. Psychotherapy isn’t just about fixing people’s problems. It’s about helping people live healthier lives through balance and boundaries
