Promoting and supporting the work of creative thinkers, designers and makers who innovate through their exploration of materials and skills. The Society is proud to have some of the most prominent names in design and craft as past members and presidents of the Society. These include some of the most influential members of the Arts and Crafts movement and important designer makers of the C20th. Formed as the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society in 1887 with Walter Crane as the society's first President, the purpose was to give a voice to, and to organise exhibitions for the growing body of designer-makers. The first of these exhibitions was held at The New Gallery, Regent Street in October 1888.
