The wbk Institute of Production Science of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) with its almost 100 employees is thematically located in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Legals/Imprint: http://www.kit.edu/legals.php Data protection: http://www.kit.edu/dataprotection.php The three areas of production and materials technology, machines, plants and process automation and production systems, which are taught by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Volker Schulze, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Fleischer, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gisela Lanza, are dedicated to application-oriented research, teaching, and innovation in the field of production engineering at KIT. In addition to research activities in the classical fields of mechanical and plant engineering, the wbk focuses on the development of production technology for enabling technologies such as electromobility, hybrid lightweight construction, and generative manufacturing. On the one hand, this involves investigating how classical production technologies and systems can be transferred to new materials and substances, and on the other hand, the upscaling of plants and the design of future factory worlds and their networks are investigated. With its modern and extensive equipment, the wbk offers scientific staff and students excellent conditions for theoretical and experimental research work with the aim of providing an integrative understanding of processes, plants, automation and networked factories. In joint projects with industrial partners, the wbk works out solutions for a wide range of topics in production technology and also develops methods and processes for tomorrow's production with a view to the future.
