Earth Studio began as a way to introduce New Zealand to truly sustainable, healthy building and to completely change the way we view what a home or building should be. The aim is to take the knowledge already put forward by the leading earth builders around the world and to experiment, adapt and advance the modern earth building industry while keeping the resulting product as simple and natural as it always has been. Earth Studio is one of the only (if not the only) company in New Zealand specialising in un-stabilised (no cement) rammed earth construction, plus numerous other earth building techniques and finishes. We also have relationships with local and international manufacturers of completely natural earth and plant-based building materials. We believe the most simple solution is almost always the most appropriate, and our use of raw or minimally processed natural materials follow that philosophy. Function guides the form in our design, and our building techniques are evident in the aesthetic results. The material qualities and construction methods are fundamentally important to how the structure performs in its environment and we aim to connect all inhabitants to these materials and methods.
