The Department of Electronic Engineering was first established in 1970 by Professor Charles Kao, who is famous for his pioneering work on the optical fibres for which he won the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics. We have grown steadily and we now have 29 talented professors complemented by more than 68 research and technical supporting staff. We are offering the undergraduate, research postgraduate and taught postgraduate programmes in Electronic Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. Currently, we have over 370 undergraduate students and about 140 full-time postgraduate students.
