What is a battery fire? There can be different causes for failure in a battery. This could trigger a thermal reaction in the battery, a so-called ‘runaway’. The cells in the battery will warm up which may cause them to produce flammable gases, including the highly toxic hydrogen fluoride. As a result, the pressure in the battery casing will rise. As the battery ignites, this could be accompanied by explosions, huge flame jets, flying cells and severe smoke development. A lot of damage due to battery fire Battery fires usually have significant impact on the surroundings and may cause a lot of damage. This could be as a result of fire, but also due to the toxic flue gases and the explosive nature of the ignition. That is why we recommend to charge the battery in a safe environment.
