At our core, we aim to mobilize the power and expertise within individuals and communities who the child welfare system has harmed. Because we believe that their leadership, their boldness, their genius is what's needed to guide the redesign of these systems. We achieve this through [1] designing data products that imagine alternatives to the child welfare system, and [2] supporting local efforts to transform child welfare, through data and evaluation technical assistance. In the last year, we've published a qualitative article on why NYC's model of providing interdisciplinary legal representation to parents involved in child maltreatment court cases leads to children returning home sooner, completed a cost-benefit analysis of this model of interdisciplinary family defense, and provided data and research-related technical assistance on a range of projects to reform child welfare systems.
