SALISBURY CITY ALMSHOUSE AND WELFARE CHARITIES
www.salisburyalmshouses.co.ukSalisbury City Almshouse and Welfare Charities have a long history, reaching back to the 14th Century, of caring for elderly people within the Salisbury area. We manage 190 flats in and around the city for retired people who wish to remain independent but prefer the added reassurance of a warden. Our almshouses are all modernised and offer affordable accommodation which is secure, convenient and comfortable where residents can come and go as they please. Almshouses are one-bedroom flats or bungalows, some with level access showers. Communal facilities give residents the opportunity to socialise and get involved with leisure activities if and when they choose. Keen gardeners can enjoy pottering in the gardens and courtyards which are available to everyone. Our resident wardens visit everybody daily to ensure their general wellbeing and to provide help and advice. For added peace of mind we have our own out-of-hours relief warden, together with a 24-hour alarm service. We also manage two ‘very sheltered’ schemes, with 25 flats specially adapted for wheelchair access, for those who need just a little more support but are not yet ready for a residential care home. Residents are still independent and retain their privacy with their own front door, but wardens are on site to help and support where needed 24 hours a day, and a lunchtime meal is prepared and cooked on the premises. Residents can share a wider social life through the use of the communal leisure rooms.
