Mathetes, Inc. centers on the advocacy and creation of Fine Art following the high traditions of Western Civilization. As Fine Art attempts to visually articulate deep themes and meaningful ideas, it also tends to engage its viewers whether or not they appreciate the full impact of the ideas represented or fully understand the idiom in which those ideas are expressed. Often inexplicably compelling, such art is that which succeeds at drawing its viewers into a conversation regarding its subject – one to which its viewers return again and again, to admire how it is carried out by the artist, or even to renew it again for themselves. In many ways, such art sells itself. Finding our greatest inspiration in the combination of realism and symbolism employed by Renaissance, Baroque and Neo-Classical forms of artistic expression, most of the work we do likewise favors realistic representation of familiar forms as a veneer under which their symbolic use points either to the important role of the Church or its teachings in the structure of Western Civilization, or to the evidence God has produced for Himself in Creation. Most of these works require considerable research and flow best from forms of inspiration not readily available in the Midwest, or even in America; so we travel in search of these sources of artistic inspiration, as well.
