By honoring career achievement by dramatic artists in film, television and theatre, we create a sustaining model that generates awareness and resources used to support dramatic arts education programs everywhere The state of Dramatic Arts Education in our schools today… • 74% of students in our elementary and secondary schools HAVE NO dedicated dramatic and theatre arts education curriculum . • 83% of ‘at risk’ students said their decision to stay in school was a result of their participation in a dramatic arts program. • Dramatic Arts students outperform non-arts peers on SAT tests. • Performances of Shakespeare help improve students’ understanding of other complex texts including science and math. • 93% of Americans believe that the arts are essential to a complete education. • Dramatic Arts Education helps close the achievement gap. Improvisational drama contributes to improved reading achievement and attitude in disadvantaged students • Dramatic Arts Education and performance have a particularly positive effect on students with learning disabilities. • Dramatic Arts and Theatre programs in high schools, where they are available, are second only to sports in terms of participation and popularity. • The number of students entering colleges and universities offering performing arts degrees has doubled in the last 15 years.
