The Village of Great Neck Plaza was incorporated on May 3, 1930. The Plaza, centrally located within the Great Neck Peninsula, and by virtue of it being a hub with the Long Island Rail Road's Great Neck Station, contains unique, varied, upscale shops and restaurants found on our main street, "Middle Neck Road." Great Neck Plaza encompasses a busy commercial district, three parks, as well as residential sections comprised of many multiple dwellings and private homes. Although geographically the Village measures only a third of a square mile, it boasts a vibrant downtown with a railroad station (Great Neck Branch of the Long Island Rail Road), over 260 retail stores and service establishments, 90 multiple-family apartment buildings, 148 single family homes, approximately 40 office buildings, 2 four star hotels, a nursing home, a senior independent living facility and one senior assisted-care living facility. The Village of Great Neck Plaza is protected by the Nassau County Police Department Third Precinct located in Williston Park, and fire protection is provided by two volunteer departments -Vigilant Engine and Hook & Ladder for locations north of the LIRR and Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department for locations south of the LIRR.
