Built on decades of experience the Centre’s social and scientific network extends to most European countries and has working contacts with professionals from around the globe. Although our work involves research and analysis across a broad spectrum of scientific areas, we have strong focus on earth sciences, addressing both applied and basic research related to earth systems & resources, geology, raw materials & minerals. LPRC is currently working on the following projects: UNEXMIN - An autonomous underwater explorer for flooded mines, CHPM2030 - Combined Heat Power and Metal extraction from ultra-deep ore bodies, KINDRA - Groundwater research inventory and classification to make groundwater visible, INTRAW - Fostering international cooperation on raw materials with non-EU countries, VAMOS - Viable Alternative Mine Operating System, Minatura2020 - Concept and methodology for “Mineral deposits of public importance”, MICA - The Mineral Intelligence Capacity Analysis, FORAM - Towards a World Forum on Raw Materials. Previously, the Centre coordinated Volvanoes's Night, research outreach project to bridge the gap between geosciences and the public, under three consecutive EC contracts during a four year period. The Centre also participated in EXTRACT-IT that identified multidisciplinary research topics in the cross-section of future ultra-deep mining and ICT.
