Étymologie began in the labs at McGill University in Montreal, where Raquela was finishing her MSc, studying cosmetic chemistry and formulation in Milan, from world-renowned cosmetic chemist Dr Luigi Rigano. Raquela began formulating her own products to effectively, yet gently cleanse, moisturize and treat her sensitive, acne-prone skin experiencing the first sign of aging. My acne products on the market are targeted at teenagers and dry out and irritate the skin. Raquela sought out to create elegant, highly efficacious formulas that simultaneously treat the skin with active ingredients and replenish the skin skin barrier with nutrient rich plant oils and extracts.
