Malamulele Onward
www.cpchildren.orgMalamulele Onward (MO) is a dynamic and innovative team of therapists and mothers of children with cerebral palsy (CP) who work to improve the lives of all children with CP in Southern Africa. We believe that every child with CP, irrespective of their age or location, has the potential for change and the right to excellent rehabilitation support. While we have witnessed the devastating consequences experienced by children and families with little or no access to therapy and supportive equipment, we have also seen first-hand what can be achieved by children with CP, given the right support. The MO team utilise their specialist CP skills to: - Empower individual care-givers to understand their own child and to incorporated therapeutic strategies into everyday life - Train, mentor and support Parent Facilitators to become CP champions in their own communities, running educational workshops, supporting local therapists at CP clinics and running home visits to families who need further support - Offer training courses to therapists, educators and care-givers - Conduct research to further knowledge and understanding about CP - Provide therapy blocks for private clients seeking 1-2 weeks of intensive therapy for their child MO that understands the holistic needs of children with CP. We emphasise that CP is a way of life and recognise that in order to improve a child’s life, we cannot work with the child in isolation. We work to create supportive environments which include; the child’s main care-giver and family, their neighbours and educators as well as the local health and rehabilitation services. We love what we are do and are dedicated to effecting change across individual, organisational and legislative levels. So far we have trained 39 Parent Facilitators and together we've changed the lives of more than 1500 families across South Africa and Lesotho.
