Institute of International Economic Law

Georgetown Law’s Institute of International Economic Law is the focal point for the study of international economic law at and one of the leading centers for international economic law and policy in the world. Originally focused on trade, we provide legal and policy discussions in fintech and financial regulation, international trade, international tax, and sovereign debt. We actively approach these fields as interrelated and at times overlapping policy spheres that impact how law is devised, practiced, and enforced. At the Georgetown Law Center, we have the largest array of courses in international economic law in the country. Through our longstanding connections with international institutions, we offer students, faculty, alumni, and friends of the Institute the opportunity to interact with top scholars, policymakers, industry executives, and think tanks through our colloquia, conferences, events, and workshops. Students are at the heart of everything that we do. In this regard, this page provides information and updates for current and prospective students, and alumni and friends of the Institute alike. If you would like to learn more about how to support or collaborate with us, please send us a DM. OUR MISSION: Founded in 1999 by the late Georgetown Law Professor John H. Jackson, and now directed by Agnes N. Williams Research Professor of Law Chris Brummer, our Institute's objective is to facilitate research and teaching, convene stakeholder meetings and conferences, and offer Executive Education on a broad range of subjects that concern the law of international economic activity. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to interdisciplinary, non-partisan analysis of the most cutting-edge legal challenges facing economic policymakers. We aim to provide students, alumni, policymakers, and market participants with the foundation to navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape and with the skills and insight to Innovate, Engage, and Lead.
