Our adventures fall under two main umbrellas: Toronto Pursuits, an annual literary salon in the sun, and Travel Pursuits, a selection of trips to destinations around the world. TORONTO PURSUITS Each July, a convivial community gathers to engage with compelling literature, art, music, and film—works that move, provoke, and inspire. They come to wrestle with questions and ideas that matter. They come eager to listen to and learn from one another. They come to meet old friends and make new ones. For Toronto Pursuits’ 18th year, our theme is METAMORPHOSES. Across a broad sweep of works, we will turn our attention to change. Some metamorphoses are in the natural order of things, strikingly demonstrated in the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. But there is also unpredictable change, forced or unwanted change, change in perception but not fact. We change. The world changes. Artists borrow from one another, adapting and bending the original source. Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose? Come and see for yourself at one of our 10 seminars. TRAVEL PURSUITS We are the only organization we know of that offers opportunities to travel through both space and time to destinations like Orhan Pamuk’s Istanbul, García Márquez's Colombia, and the Belle Epoque Paris of Delacroix and Degas. By exploring the particular visions of writers and artists in the location in which their works were created, we paradoxically discover the timeless truths that make these works great. We have created our trips out of our own best learning and travel experiences – those that involve our hearts and minds; that challenge us to consider new possibilities; that delight and leave us changed.
