New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology
www.noao.orgThe New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology (NOAO) was born out of a need for additional continuing medical education for the practicing physicians and residents in New Orleans. In 1951, the NOAO formally incorporated in the State of Louisiana, an organizational effort that was a unique collaboration between LSU Medical School, Tulane Medical School and the local private practitioners. The first official meeting followed shortly, in January of 1952. International experts on the topic of glaucoma were invited, and for three days, a comprehensive review of glaucoma ensued, a practice that continues to the present day. For the last 50 years, the Academy has remained true to its original mission, “to promote ophthalmic education through instructional courses, clinics, lectures, and seminars, at which guest speakers will present subjects of current interest and importance." The topics that we cover rotate each year among the various sub-specialties. Some of the topics featured at our annual symposia: Wavefront and Emerging Refractive Technologies At the Crossings – An update on Amblyopia, Strabismus, Cataracts, Oculoplastics and Refractive Surgery To the Macula and Beyond: Updates on Retina, Anterior Segment, Glaucoma, and Neuro-Ophthalmology Eye on the Bayou: New Concepts in Glaucoma, Cataracts and Neuro-Ophthalmology Inner Visions: Updates on Refractive Surgery, Cataracts and Cosmetic Oculoplastics Glare, Cell & Flare: Updates on Cataract, IOL and Uveitis
