Wise Choices for Life collaborates with Partners who are currently engaged in capacity-building work with the vulnerable and poor in their communities. Wise Choices for Life adds the critical components of Reproductive Health and Life Skills training to the work being done in the community. We design and facilitate appropriately contextualised, professional Reproductive Health and Life Skills training for key leaders who are directly involved in the education sector, community and poverty reduction programs. While many organisations already focus on women, we have learned to be mindful of certain cultures where the support of men is required to fully empower women and to support any significant change. As women are provided with a supportive, caring, safe relationship, they can facilitate transformational and lasting change. Training men (often the faith leaders) in reproductive health, means the ones who are the cultural gatekeepers of community are more likely to adopt new practises. Men are the major influencers especially of young boys. Our training focuses on two streams: 1. Protection and Prevention of early teenage pregnancy, obstetric fistula, HIV and maternal deaths by working in schools, universities, villages and churches where youth congregate. 2. Reformation and Rehabilitation in prisons, youth remand homes and informal gatherings like motor cycle/taxi/bus terminuses to shift thinking and behaviours towards women and children.
