I started out my career as a production / manufacturing engineer after studying Manufacturing Systems with Mechanical Engineering at University and progressively gained experience in different roles and projects that were all associated with improving the performance of manufacturing, logistics and supply chain activities in manufacturing companies. I am a Certified 6 Sigma Black Belt and I have 10+ years Lean Deployment experience leading and coaching senior teams in heavy industry manufacturing companies in Europe. I believe that the UK Manufacturing sector has enormous potential to be even better than it is today, but we need better joined up thinking between schools, academia, the government and manufacturing companies. We need to better inform people of the sorts of jobs, opportunities and interesting things that manufacturers do, to ensure that people become interested in acquiring the knowledge and skills in education to prepare them for a brilliant career in manufacturing.
