POV
www.povfilm.orgThe consensus among diverse and often marginalized creative workers is that 'who you know' is critical to obtaining paid employment. Underrepresented creatives face the double bind of having to confront systemic and structural barriers while being continually excluded from the TV & Film industry due to expensive and outdated training, irrelevant social capital and exclusion from industry networks Our Mission POV 3rd Street’s mission is to educate, connect and support young people from traditionally underrepresented communities to develop their talent and creative passion into successful careers in the TV & Film production industry. How we do it POV provides free training, mentorship and paid jobs to talented young people, who are driven and have a desire to work in the TV & Film production industry but lack the relevant work experience and financial means to pursue their passion and to build it into a career. We reach youth who are stuck in this cycle and don't have technical know how or the social capital needed to break into the industry To help break this cycle, POV offers three programs: 1) Production Assistant Program (Pilot) In a first of its kind, this multi sectoral pilot project is a collaboration between POV, the government, key stakeholders from GTHA not for profit sector and the TV & Film industry. 2) Media Training Program (Flagship) Designed for talented youth from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds who have a strong interest in content development and production, the Media Training Program is a free but intensive 22 week program that runs from February to August. 3. POV Productions (Coming Soon) Credentials-based entrepreneurship programs don’t fully recognize the character, skills and experiences of creatives who aspire to be entrepreneurs. POV Productions is a social enterprise that aims to break down barriers for emerging creative entrepreneurs by bridging the gap between them and the industry they want to break into.
