WMAR’s Emmy and Murrow award-winning news team’s goal is to report on whatever is relevant to the people who live in Eastern Maryland and help them connect to their neighborhoods and improve their lives and the lives of their families. WMAR airs an in-depth investigative news program, In Focus, Monday-Friday at 6 p.m. The station produces 22.5 hours of newscast every week and constantly explores opportunities for live streaming during breaking news and severe weather. WMAR was the first television station in Baltimore to expand its weekday morning newscast to 4:30 a.m. Baltimore is the largest city in Maryland and home to WMAR-TV, a Scripps-owned station since 1991. WMAR-TV was Maryland’s first commercial television station broadcasting to Baltimore and central Maryland beginning October 27, 1947. Owned and operated by The E.W. Baltimore has very unique, cultural neighborhoods, each with its own personality with restaurants, shops and community hubs. Little Italy, Hampden and Harbor East are just a few examples.
