Sustainability Matters

www.sustainabilitymatters.earth

Sustainability Matters is a Virginia-grown grassroots nonprofit, grounded in the rural Shenandoah Valley. We cultivate community through conservation, making sustainability fun, realistic, and inclusive of all. Connect with us if you're interested in sustainable business and agriculture, local sourcing, and conservation ecology. Since our founding in 2018, Sustainability Matters has hosted over 140 education and outreach programs in eight Virginia counties and virtually, providing 12,000 landowners, farmers, and small business owners with concrete resources to help the environment while helping themselves. We build community pride around outside-the-box projects that harness untapped resources and bring conservation to unexpected places. We’ve established a reputation as a valued grassroots partner who is respected across the political spectrum, builds consensus, and can turn out a crowd. Our flagship initiatives include Making Trash Bloom (planting pollinator habitat on trash cells at landfills) and Backyard Food Bank (mentoring food insecure families through growing their own food). Our programs and workshops range from hosting the Shenandoah Valley’s largest-ever Earth Day festival to teaching targeted workshops at the State Arboretum of Virginia, leading wild edibles walks, and partnering with government agencies, localities, and businesses to host large public interest forums. We're still very much volunteer-powered, and always recruiting organizational geniuses, marketers, fundraisers, graphic & web designers, and photo/videographers. Let us know if that's you!
