The Garnet Group is the premier student finance organization at Union College. The club is run by undergraduates, under the supervision of a faculty adviser, and currently manages a $700,000 portion of the Union College endowment in a long-term equity portfolio. The Garnet Group provides students with the opportunity to make investment decisions regarding the equity portfolio while exploring the intricacies of the financial services industry. During the club's weekly meetings, senior members provide the club with educational lessons on specific sectors and aspects of the financial world. Members are encouraged to present a stock pitch which is followed by a group discussion of the benefits and pitfalls of investing in the researched equity. In addition to opportunities to conduct investment research as an undergraduate, the Garnet Group offers students extensive networking opportunities, a strong history of successful alumni placements, and exclusive events with top Wall Street firms. In recent years, the Garnet Group alumni have begun successful careers with Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Citi, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, William Blair, Nomura, Wells Fargo, PwC, and Ernst and Young.
