Lauras Light
www.lauraslight.orgSome people see light in their lives, driving them forward with confidence. Some people follow other people’s lights. For many reasons, some people have difficulty seeing light and sit in darkness. And then there are those rare people who shine light on those sitting in darkness, helping their paths glow with hope. Laura Ditka was that light! Laura MATTERED. She affected change in each of us who knew her, and those who were blessed enough to have her protecting them. Her career was FILLED with examples of advocating for those with no voice, shrouded in darkness. From creating the protocols for interviewing victims of abuse and collecting evidence to challenging institutional abuse patterns, Laura simply did what was RIGHT—even when it was unpopular. It is with this in mind that Laura’s friends and family formally announce Laura’s Light, a 501(c)3, to support causes under Laura’s care. Laura was either on the board or consulted with organizations such as PAAR (Pittsburgh Action Against Rape, of which her brother, Anthony, is now a board member), Cribs for Kids, Gwen’s Girls, and the Center for Victims. Our mission is to raise funds and awareness for those most vulnerable in honor of their great champion. Covid-19 and current social conflicts have made it more important than ever to act and fill this void.
