Balarinji
www.balarinji.com.auBalarinji is Australia’s foremost Indigenous design and strategy studio. As an Aboriginal Australian-owned studio, Balarinji was founded on authentic engagement with Aboriginal people, culture, art, stories and identity. Our ethos is design excellence and deepening the understanding of Aboriginal Australia for major art and design projects nationally and internationally. Our work spans public art, curatorial, precinct planning, urban regeneration and infrastructure, branding campaigns and digital. Based in Sydney, Balarinji was founded in 1983 by its Chair, Yanyuwa man John Moriarty and Managing Director, Ros Moriarty. As dual inductees to the Design Institute Hall of Fame, the Australian Graphic Design Association Hall of Fame and Australian Design Prize winners, our founders are recognised for their unparalleled contribution to building bridges of best practice participation between Aboriginal communities, business and the broader community. Continuing our founders’ commitment to Indigenous Australia, Balarinji has an affiliated organisation for good, the Moriarty Foundation. It’s Indigenous-led solutions radically shift inter-generational disadvantage and enable Aboriginal families and communities to unlock the potential of their children. As lead consultant to the office of the Government Architect NSW on Connecting with Country, Balarinji worked closely with the government and the Aboriginal community to develop the policy's principles for infrastructure. Balarinji has a demonstrated commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment, and we are certified Indigenous suppliers by Supply Nation and NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce. Balarinji’s framework is a proven and groundbreaking methodology that is enriching Australian public places and major projects by activating the local Aboriginal narrative. We have earned our leadership of Aboriginal design in Australia through thirty-nine years of trailblazing in the sector.
