Feed It Forward
www.feeditforward.caThe goal of Feed It Forward is to feed Canadians, not landfill. Feed It Forward rescues and repurposes perfectly good, quality food that is otherwise destined for landfill and places it in the hands of those who need it most. Chef Jagger Gordon launched Feed It Forward in 2014 because he could not bear the copious food waste created each time he catered an event. After a military career that included service in 32 countries, Jagger attended culinary school in Toronto, then worked alongside some great chefs. These experiences -- service to others, an appreciation of our global interconnectedness, and joy in food preparation -- were the seeds of Feed It Forward. Since its launch, Feed It Forward has fed hundreds of thousands of people by rescuing food from restaurants, cafes and bakeries, as well as unsold grocery store food. Sadly, a stunning 58 per cent of all food produced in Canada — 35.5 million tonnes — is lost or wasted. At the same time, hunger is endemic: there were more than one million visits to food banks in the GTA last year. Feed It Forward believes that food deserves a second chance. Unique among food charity organizations, Feed It Forward focuses on sustainability and earth-friendly initiatives. These initiatives include: *North America's first “pay what you can” grocery store *Food hamper program *Mobile food truck program Many others have come to share in the vision of Feed It Forward. These include countless volunteers as well as companies such as Mark's, Second Harvest and Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment. Together, Feed it Forward is showing Canadians that we can put the planet first by honouring one of its most glorious gifts: food.
