The Dorcas Cancer Foundation is a non-profit cancer organization providing social, psychological, and financial aid to children living with a cancer diagnosis in Nigeria. Childhood Cancer is now the 4th most common cause of death in children globally. Childhood cancer incidence has risen in the last 5 decades; to a current estimated 100,000 new cases per year. Available data show that up to 80% of newly-diagnosed children live in low to middle income countries plagued by unavailable or insufficient facilities and expertise in childhood cancer. TDCF is dedicated to improving the lives and outcomes of children living with cancer in Nigeria. We do this by running awareness and advocacy campaigns, and directly funding cancer care for children under 15 years of age from diagnosis, through treatment and up to rehabilitation. Completed and On-going Projects • Childhood Cancer Handbook Series for education of families, and healthcare professionals. • Healthcare Professional re-education and orientation on early diagnosis of childhood cancer • Childhood Cancer Awareness and Advocacy • Community Awareness Programs • Support Groups • Facilitation of Pediatric Tumor Boards • Distribution of early warning signs charts • Direct Funding of treatment, testing, and rehabilitation • Partnerships with corporate organizations to improve cancer care delivery We work and partner with Oncologists, Surgeons, Pathologists, Radiologists, Oncology Nurses, Pharmacists, Corporate organizations, Policy makers, Government; and Non-government organizations.
