Green Building Council Uganda (GBCUG) is an independent, not-for-profit membership organization working to increase environmental awareness and promote sustainability in the built environment. Membership comprises individuals and companies from public and private sector, civil society, academia and professional associations - actors and influencers from across the building supply chain who desire a better built environment Our vision is of a clean green, healthy sustainable built environment that offers positive and productive places for people to live and work in - buildings, cities that are climate resilient, environmentally sensitive, economically viable, socially inclusive, and culturally appropriate - while conserving our natural environment. Our mission is to transform the way in which Uganda’s built environment is planned, designed, constructed, maintained and operated towards climate resilient and sustainable practice in response to climate change, to reduce greenhouse emissions, to fulfill our international agreements and NDC commitments and, to protect our natural environment. Our changing climate means we must reshape the way we grow and build. Partners GBCUG has partnered with Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)) the for Green City Development project to Green Uganda’s Urbanisation and Industrialisation in four (4) secondary cities: Arua, Gulu, Mbarara, and Jinja. The MOU seeks to support incorporation of green building standards into the National Building Codes (NBC). Networks GBCUG is a member of the World Green Building Council (WGBC) – a network of 70 councils that catalyses the uptake of sustainable buildings everywhere, for everyone GBCUG support the sustainable Development Goals
