Schnellenberger Family Foundation
Coach Howard Schnellenberger and his wife, Beverlee, had a very successful career in the NFL and the NCAA, with winning football teams all over the country. But there was one aspect of their lives where they could not successfully figure out. It was their sons drug addictions. Even though their sons went to several treatment centers Howard and Beverlee still felt lost and kept doing the same things expecting different results. Little did they know, this is a “family” disease. Each of the treatment centers tried to help with a family weekend here and there to support their sons, but there wasn’t any real education on the disease, their role as parents of an addict or what to do when their sons came home. Howard and Beverlee were also so shocked to find so many families who reached out to them who were in the same situation as they were. After their sons did get sober the whole family saw the need for a program to focus specifically on the family and loved ones of alcoholics and addicts, in active addiction and post treatment. Diving deep into the new solution he found in Alcoholics Anonymous, Tim Schnellenberger dedicated the past 20 years helping the addict who was still searching for a solution to his/her problem, though treatment and housing. Little did he know that much of his time would be dedicated to the counseling of parents of the kids and adults that he was trying to help. Something had to be done! That is why, in 2017, the Schnellenberger Family founded the Schnellenberger Family Foundation’s Educational Family Program and all of its four components.
