Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisations
www.alliance-network.euThe Alliance is an International Youth NGO, founded in 1982, and presently made up of 50 full, associate and candidate member organisations mainly based in the EU countries but also in the United Kingdom, Armenia, Bielorussia, Ukraine, Russia, Canada, Japan, India, South Korea, Mexico and Nepal. The main activity our members carry on is the organisation of short-term International Voluntary Service projects, the workcamps. A workcamp is a collective activity where a group of international volunteers coming from different countries of the world, live together and work together - on a voluntary basis - for something beneficial for the local community. To participate to a workcamp there are not eligibility criteria or age limits: workcamps mainly target young people and teenagers but also seniors are welcome to join, just everyone can get involved. Workcamps are true tools of self and community development and provide a space where people learn and practice values such as inclusion, youth active citizenship, environmental sustainability, gender equality, intercultural understanding and dialogue. Workcamps can have different topics: construction, archeology, environment, activities with children, social inclusion are just few of the several workcamp types available. Alliance members organise workcamps in they local realities, contributing this way to the development of their local communities. Alliance role, as a network, is representing workcamp grassrot organisations, meaning our members, to the European institutional level, to advocate for workcamps, youth work and non formal education recognition, and to provide networking and capacity building opportunities to youth leaders, youth workers and trainers active among our members. Thanks to the workcamps organised by our members, the Alliance mobilizes every year 12000 volunteers.
